Gang Gang Dance

2 11 2008

I heard of Gang Gang Dance for the first time today through the Warp Records YouTube page but soon realised their first LP ‘Fusetron’ was released in 2004 and they have been firmly embedded in the New York underground for the past decade.  Silly me for thinking I had found a new act, but it was a worthy find all the same.

Gang Gang Dance are a culmination of vast influences and genres taking d’n’b, rap, italo, pop, classical, oriental, techno and dubstep and spitting them out in in a fusion of warped, underground, electo-clash industrial sounds and two-step, melodies that make ‘The Knife’ sound like mainstream pop.  Their new album ‘St. Dymphna’ (-the patron saint of outsiders) which was released on 20th October pushes the guild on the all too familiar formulaic structure that many dance music artists athere to, and encapsulates what can be achieved by exercising true thought and imagination.  ‘House Jam’ is the stand out single for me, where the lead vocalists voice floats beautifully over a landscape of transcontinental sounds taking you on a journey encapsulating traditional cultural tribal rythms and contemporary electronic synths and stabs.  Comparable to Bjork, Kate Bush and The Knife, Gang Gang Dance will always undercut the attention of the mainstream masses but are sure to bring much reward to the ears of the discerned listener.  Enjoy.

Julian Beever – Street Art

30 10 2008

Julian Beevers 3D perspective street art has recently generated great worldwide interest. It is not suprising to see that some companies have already tapped into its popularity to advertise their brands.  It is an exciting platform that can really capture the imagination of the masses, generate free advertising, and generate a buzz about a brand in a very cost effective manner.  I would not be suprised to see an influx of this advertising style in the nearby future.  Watch this space.

Whose line is it anyway?

24 10 2008

bodytonic-blobThe good people at Bodytonic have come up with another gem of an idea to continue to generate interest and help instill a sense of community and empowerment amongst their fans.

When I say “come up with” I mean burrow, from MTV, who improvised it from Coca-Cola, who im sure robbed it from someone else but who cares1? Thats what its all about!

They have invited their fans to create new logos and web designs for their brands by providing them with a template and sizing guidelines.  Anybody can participate and everybody’s creations are then shown on their blogs.  It is an excellent way of helping generate cult status for the brand, as well as getting some free ideas for their future designs!

Anyways enough with the boring analysis… Some of the MTV designs are truely inspiring….Click the links!

Breath of Fresh Air

24 10 2008

I came across this video on the Bloom Advertising Blog. The Ad was created by Ogilvy New York for the Environmental Defense Fund.

The Ad was inspired by subway istallation pieces by Joshua Allen Haris, in New York.

Here are some more examples of his amazing work.

And an interview with the man himself. Enjoy.

Pure Imagination…

24 10 2008

Come with me and we’ll be in a world of pure imagination. Take a look and you’ll see into your imagination.

We’ll begin, with a spin, travelling in a world of my creation. What we’ll see will defy explaination.

If you want to view paradise, simply look around and view it, anything you want to do it.

Want to change the world there’s nothing to it.

There is no place i know to compare to pure imagination.

Living there you’ll be free… if you truely wish to be….
